It’s not often that we cover complete golf sets but today we did. So there.

City Limits Driving Range

Posted: October 15th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: | No Comments »

Not a golf wood review but worth bringing to your attention if you work in the City of London. If you don’t, let me know if one of these exist in your nearest city as they’re brilliant and rather hidden if you ask me! Essentially we’re talking about a  driving range, on two levels, in the middle of the most built up commercial area of the UK. I stumbled upon it whilst going to grab a sandwhich in Shoreditch, London and found a astro-turf based driving range (note the astro makes your chipping very interesting – watch the bounce!)

A hidden gem

Taylormade R9Each year our family get together for 3 days of golf and excessive drinking. This years ‘family golf trip’ took place over the Ryder cup weekend and proved to be my best yet. Not only did I come painfully close to winning the whole thing (out of 12 players – 1 point from the leader), I played some consistent golf, scoring 38 points the first round and 40 the second. To top it all off I won the longest drive, outdriving two pro golfers who played! The drive was in part due to a new driver that had its first outing, the Taylormade R9 driver. I’ve managed to track it down at close to half price from Golf Gear Direct  it was £329.00 but in the sale you’ll Save: £160.00 at the clearance price of £169.00.

The Taylor Made R9 Driver is available in Mens right hand and mens left hand specifications. By altering the loft, lie, face angle at address and the center of gravity on the driver you can promote up to a 75 yard difference in your normal shot pattern.

In short this driver is going to be remembered by me as the one that won me a golf umbrella and proved that amateurs can sometimes get the better of pro’s!

Mill Ride, lost balls and my longest drive!

Posted: September 24th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: 1 Wood | Tags: | 2 Comments »

I played nine holes this morning at a course called Mill Ride in Ascot, Berkshire. I scored badly, losing quite a few balls to water and woodland. It started to rain on the 5th hole and I had no umbrella. I 3 putted more often that I care to mention. Golf is a hard game, which feels a lot harder in the rain…

However, there is a twist to this sad tale which brought sunshine to an otherwise depressing 2 hours.  On the 6th hole (pic below) I hit the best tee shot I’ve ever struck carrying 280 yards deadly straight. It was fantastic! What wood do I have to thank for that? It’s the Callaway ERC2, which have been around a couple of years. I’m not even sure if you can buy them new, but worth checking the Callaway section of the shops or go direct to what appears to be a second hand callway exchange in the US Callaway Pre-owned

Golf wood 1 – Cobra S2 SN Graphite Shaft

Posted: September 17th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: 1 Wood | Tags: | 5 Comments »

Before trying this club I was put off by the sheer volume buzz words used by JJB to describe it. Here are but a few examples “Its traditional profile and rich, black Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) finish will inspire confidence in your game.” Now I don’t know about you, but my Physical Vapor Deposition is a private matter that I only discuss with my GP or the wife. It goes on to tell you it has ‘9 point face technology’ – does that mean you’ll save 9 shots per round – in which case, I’ll take two! Then succeeds in completely baffling me with its Adjustable Flight Technology (AFT) – my head hurts.

Golf Wood 1 – Titleist 909D Comp Xcon 5 #1 Driver rrp £249

Posted: September 2nd, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: 1 Wood | Tags: | 10 Comments »

The Titleist Driver is a golf wood range that offers great feel and consistency and the new 909D Comp is no exception. The classic pear shaped head gives the golfer confidence at address and provides forgiveness on those off centre hits. The design in the 909D Comp suits a golfer who is looking to achieve a higher launch and ultimately a flight that will increase their carry distance.  The superb Xcon 5 shaft will keep the spin rate down allowing the ball to maintain its flight even in strong winds.
